The Dinner Lady Menu Service

The Dinner Lady Menus To Go

School meals compliant menus:

Jeanette Orrey (the Dinner Lady) & HET have joined forces to do all the hard work!

We can offer a full range of services to make the job of demonstrating compliance far easier for schools.

From nutritional compliance checks for your own menus, to a complete ‘off the shelf’ package of pre compliant recipes and menus.

Are your school menus food and nutrient based standards compliant?

If you still need compliant, seasonal menus then look no further…

WHAT’s THE HURRY

By law all schools should already be already meeting the relevant School Food Standard, in particular the Nutrient Based Standards .

Adopting a new set of compliant menus and recipes that have been tried and tested in schools will remove the need to spend significant time and resource having your existing menus nutritionally analysed and then adapted until they are compliant.  So let’s help reduce some of the hard work, saving you valuable time. However if you want a more bespoke approach then let us help you with our personalised, flexible service.

With HETs expertise in nutrition and the school food standards and Jeanette Orrey’s experience revolutionising her own school kitchen and now advising and supporting schools across the country, it makes sense for us to do the work for you.  Jeanette is author of the famous children’s recipe books ‘The Dinner Lady’ and ‘Second Helpings’.

Let’s help reduce some of the hard work for you:

Achieving the Nutrient Based Standards can be very challenging & time consuming, requiring:

  • Collation of all recipes with accurate measurements & method of cooking
  • Inputting recipes into a nutritional software package
  • Analysis of menu cycle & sales mix
  • Adjusting menus to meet the nutrient & final food based standards

For accuracy all stages should be assisted by a registered dietitian or nutritionist.

Tried and tested recipes that have been designed by Jeanette Orrey to maximise uptake by combining children’s preferences with a balanced meal offering and using a practical approach to meet the caterers needs.

Do you want a more flexible and bespoke service?

In addition to the ‘off the shelf’ menus we can provide a full range of services depending on the needs of a specific school or local authority. These include:

  • Fully bespoke menus based on pupil/school preferences;
  • Analysis of a school’s current menu to assess compliance;
  • Advice and support to help schools achieve compliance;
  • A mix of new ‘off the shelf’ recipes with incorporation of some of your ‘pupil favourites’ as determined by your school council;
  • Specific menu requests, such as a fully vegetarian offering;
  • Advice and support from HET & the Dinner Lady to help you achieve full compliance with your own menus (once they have been analysed).
  • Option to purchase individual Dinner Lady recipes a few at a time, as budget permits

WHATS ON OFFER for primary schools?

Jeanette Orrey has already produced a 3 week spring, summer and autumn menu cycles for primary schools, using her tried and tested recipes designed for use in primary schools. The Health Education Trust (HET) registered nutritionists and dietitian have nutritionally analysed these menus to demonstrate full compliance with the final food and nutrient based standards for primary schools.
You will be sent the complete 3 week menu cycle to include full recipes and information to highlight compliance with the nutrient and food based standards. Our menus have been developed  based on Jeannette Orrey’s experience creating menus that children love. They will use fresh ingredients and be as seasonal as possible.

Secondary and special schools thinking about the nutrient and final food based standards ahead of the September 2009 deadline.

We are now establishing work with several Secondary schools to pilot and finalise our compliant menus. We are offering both an ‘off the shelf’ service and a fully bespoke service and are currently working with secondary schools.

We can offer a flexible approach specific to the needs and budget of each school, and all our services come with the facility for our team of Registered Nutritionists to carry out the nutritional analysis of your menus, so simplifying the entire process of compliance for your school.

Please Note

The Dinner Lady Service is a fully flexible system.

Our aim is to provide a simple, least cost solution for schools, whether it is to get them started, or to refine and further develop a well established school meals service that already provides a range of freshly prepared, healthier meals and snacks.

  • We provide an individualised, tailored service that includes verbal and written support to all of the schools we work with, whatever their budget.  We can supply taster recipes as a starting point- this may be particularly useful if budgets are tight, or a school isn’t ready to make a full commitment to changing their full menus. Gradually introducing new recipes, especially when cooking from fresh is often an easier way to proceed for both staff and children.
  • Alternatively we can work with schools to adapt some elements of their existing service, alongside introducing the Dinner Lady recipes and menus. This mix and match approach helps to keep costs down, as well as keep some continuity of service.
  • For schools that would prefer to keep their existing menus and modify as necessary to achieve compliance, we offer a fully bespoke service, tailored specifically to the needs of the school.
    To discuss any of these options further, please contact Karen Piercey on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday on 01327 354632. We would be pleased to help.
