We can help schools demonstrate compliance with the School Food Standards.
Food For Life Partnership
Joe Harvey – Director of the Health Education Trust (HET), is delighted that the Health Education Trust is a partner in the 5 year, £17 million ‘Food for Life Partnership’ project. This very substantial award by the Big Lottery is the largest of its kind ever granted in the UK and is both hugely important and exciting in terms of children’s health.
HET is particularly pleased to be working with partners whose experience and expertise blend well to deliver challenging and important outcomes at a time when the state of our children’s health is a major public health concern.
The project began in early 2007 and the HET team, directly managed by Joe Harvey, consists of four School Policy Development Officers supported by administrative, IT and financial expertise. The role of the Policy Officers is to assist schools with the formation and development of a School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG), set up a process of pupil, staff and community consultation and develop both a school ‘action plan’ and a ‘whole school’ food policy.
The ‘whole school’ food policy outlines the key aims and objectives of the school in improving food culture. The ‘action plan’ provides the framework to work towards the Food for Life Partnership awards. Schools are then expertly supported in taking their action plan by the other partners – the Soil Association, the Focus on Food Campaign and Garden Organic. In order to achieve its particular remit HET has created, specifically for the FFLP partnership project, a range of innovative and exciting resources which are available for all schools to use. They can be accessed both here on the HET website and on the main FFLP website.
